On May 10, 2002, Southeastern leaders met in Charlotte, North Carolina, to continue their discussion on air quality challenges across the region, share information, and work toward regional solutions to air problems. The 4th Governors' Summit on Air Quality included presentations on findings of the Southern Appalachian Mountains Initiative (SAMI), a multi-year study examining air quality in the region. Another highlight was a report on the progress being made under the Southern Air Principles, an agreement between the governors of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee calling for a joint strategy to address smog, acid deposition, and haze. The agenda below shows the speakers and discussion topics, with links to Adobe Acrobat (PDF) versions of PowerPoint presentations where available.
