The Division of Air Quality recently held its fifth Employee Recognition Awards ceremony, with DENR Secretary Bill Ross bestowing the honors. Michael Pjetraj of the Technical Services Section was named the 2003 DAQ Employee of the Year. The Emissions Inventory User Group was named the 2003 DAQ Team of the Year. Pjetraj, the regional quality assurance coordinator for DAQ, was recognized for developing and presenting IMPAQ training for all division personnel last spring. IMPAQ is the division's database system. Michael organized the training sessions, assembled all of the necessary equipment, arranged speakers on various topics, and presented much of the training himself. The Emissions Inventory User Group designed and implemented a pilot emissions inventory data system to replace the old method for reporting and entering emissions from permitted sources across the state. The three-year effort resulted in a system that, when fully implemented, will allow sources to report their emissions electronically over the web rather than submitting the information on paper (although paper forms are still accepted). The new system will save time for sources as well as DAQ staff and improve the quality of our data. Team members included coordinator Jim Southerland and Carol Walker, Brendan Davey, Heather Hawkins, Angela Hall, Tammie Manning, Tony Sabetti, Steve Moser and Jenny Sheppard. Other nominees for DAQ Employee of the Year included Mary Clark, George Halsey, Regina Hudock, Charles Davis and Ernestine Hicks. Other nominees for the Team of the Year included the Attainment Planning Branch and the Emergency Air Monitoring Response Team. |
